Album Review

Spirit Rising is a CD that Sonic Tribe made to "soothe the soul and make us feel whole again." This ensemble is a quartet of talented musicians — Dean Evenson (flute, digi-horn, keyboards),Scott Huckabay (trance guitar), Gina Salá (vocals, chants), and Greg Callahan (djembe, percussion, vocals). There are six guests — A.B. (didgeridoo), Beth Quist (doumbek, tambourine, vocals), Jason Darling (doumbek, percussion), Craig Olson (six-string fretless bass), and Phil Heaven (viola). These ten virtuosos have created a masterpiece and a full-scale homage to peace and harmony. This is not a typical Evenson Soundings disc. This CD has a lot of energy and heavy rock & roll timbres. They do not build atmospheres, but the atmospheres happen. This music soothes and then energizes the savage beast. This CD will appeal to fans of Gabrielle Roth, Byron Metcalf, Vas, and Steve Gorn.

a gem

this album is a secret waiting to be discovered...out of the ashes, track 10, a tribute to 9/11 that is still so relevant as we transcend the dichotomy of the election process and focus on how we can better prepare as individuals to prepare for a more enlightened society and not rely on an archaic political system. what an exciting time to dance!

Music with Soul for Yoga

This album is a sweet collection that blends into a solid feeling of love and hope. There are quite moments and groovy moments and it makes a surprisingly complete soundtrack for a Yoga practice. A favourite of mine and my students - I get asked about it all the time after playing it in class!

I love this CD

I first heard this music the morning after a spirit journey and it has had a place in my regular rotation off and on, since. It becomes a part of my clothing. A great CD, incredible talents in this band as well. The high D she hits on the climatic middle section of the title track absolutely pierces me and gives me warm chills. "Molecular reconstruction," as Carlos Santana refers to that sensation that transcendent music gives us. I would love to make music with this band. Beautiful sonic aesthetics. Namaste'

Their debut, Sonic Tribe, came out in 2000 and made a splash in the yoga world due to the album's relaxing tones...
