Truly Original

Joanna Newsom took me by suprise. At first I wasn't sure about it, but I have come to love her intricate music and amazing lyrics. In a age of mass appeal it is truly refreshing to see a talented performer with the courage to put out an album that is so highly unconventional.

I'm Left Saying "huh?"

I like finding new stuff and this is definately different! I like reading celebrity playlists and found Joanna Newsom on Fred Armisen's list. I didn't like the song he had picked, but wanted to see what else this performer had to offer - her voice is different, childlike, reminds me of the old vintage 78's, then to find out it is just her and her harp! Classic! This song, Sprout and the Bean, is very melodic and hypnotic. Makes me want to make my own Indie folk CD - different. Leaves me scratching my head in wonderment that I like it yet it is nothing like I have had on my ipod before.

So unique, so amazing

I found out about Joanna Newsom on an indie internet radio station. The first song I heard of hers was "Peach, Plum, Pear" and I was instantly hooked. I remember the first time I listenend to it, I was fascinated and had to own the album. The rest of her songs are equally unique and fascinating. Her voice is truly unique, her harp playing is fantastic, her lyrics are amazing, and her melodies are intelligent. I highly reccommend this album.

Although Joanna Newsom's Appalachian-meets-avant-garde take on folk music is her most celebrated work, her range is even more inclusive than her solo career suggests: the classically trained harpist adds a decidedly different, textural sound to Nervous Cop, the noise rock trio that also features Deerhoof's Greg Saunier and Hella's Zach Hill, and she also plays keyboards for the Pleased, another San Francisco-area band more akin to Blondie or Television than her other projects. Like her resumé, Newsom's...
