Easy to listen to, easy to ignore
I love what Bryce has said about music and it's use in communication and shared experience, but I often get lost in these recordings, and not in a great way. I feel like he was too cautious with the orchestra and what could have been incredible turned into something that sounded like a really great attempt on GarageBand.
Not that anyone could do what Bryce does on GarageBand or any other way, I just expected more.
I wanted to sit and listen to all 13 minutes of St. Carolyn, but instead I found myself spacing out and making a sandwich about 4 minutes in.
I love classical music and I love The National, I was hoping those worlds would triumphantly collide, but maybe I got my own hopes up too much.

This is not Jonny Greenwood’s best album, but it is Bruce Dessner’s. On it, there is mush music to listen to and you enjoy it more while not listening to it. Thank you for this, Johnny and Bruce.
