iTunes Review

Kansas City’s Vedera have garnered many comparisons to the Cranberries and Frente! (they specialize in female-fronted, ‘90s-inspired, guitar pop) but Stages boasts some dreamy moments more reminiscent of the Sundays. The amorously troubled “Goodbye My Love” would work well on a break-up mix adjacent to “Here’s Where The Story Ends.” Likewise, gossamer ballad “The Rain” could fit perfectly alongside the Sundays’ weepy version of “Wild Horses.” Still it’s the more driving and endearingly melodramatic numbers here like “Satisfy” and “Loving Ghosts” that work with eloquent lyrics and elegant musicianship to make for songs that are not at all afraid to step on the distortion pedal and rock out during the more impassioned moments. “Even I” builds on the kind of young, universal sentiment found in the tear-smeared pages of unlocked diaries; that that this song could perfectly soundtrack any of those post-adolescent television dramas is hardly a bad thing when you consider the breath of fresh air that is Kristen May’s voice.

Some songs are remakes of their old album.

Their other album that was released in 2005, called "The Weight of an Empty Room" had similar songs on it. For example, "Satisfy" on this album was "Desire on Repeat" on their older album. To me, they remade some of the songs to sound more mainstream. I on the other hand, preferred the edgier songs from the older album.

I still bought the album, but I defintely feel like Vedera (originally VEDA) is now mainstreaming a little too much and now sound less original.

However, the lead singer's vocals are PHENOMINAL so I couldn't help but purchase!

Wowwwwww! The must underrated band out there ladies and gentlemen!

Kristen May's voice is incredible both Live and in the Studio. Kristen conveys so much emotion in both her vocals and lyrics, the band compliment her so well. This is an Album for everyone, gorgeous, sometimes rocking, but never losing intimacy at any time. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

At once aggressive, atmospheric, and emotionally forceful, Vedera is an indie rock quartet from Kansas City, MO. Vocalist/guitarist Kristen May and lead guitarist Brian Little first worked together in a band called Red Authentic; following that group's split during the spring of 2004, the two joined forces with bassist Jason Douglas and drummer Drew Little (Brian's younger brother, who was in high school when the band first formed). The group was named Veda, in part for "Vedha," a Hindu word meaning...
