Album Review

As he did to celebrate his 50th birthday, Stan Getz performed at the Montmartre Club in Copenhagen at the time of his 60th birthday. This enjoyable set (mostly lengthy versions of standards) finds the veteran tenor still very much in his prime and greatly assisted by pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Victor Lewis. Worth picking up.

Customer Reviews

Blood Count is a must-have

This is an all-around excellent set pairing the great Kenny Barron with Stan Getz late in his career. The must-have track is Billy Strayhorn's Blood Count. This group gives one of the most haunting versions on record of this lyrical, melancholy meditation on mortality.

regrets

In retrospect I wish I had been able to see this concert. A stellar jazz ensemble. I think Stan knew the end was near; there is an element of melancholy here.
