iTunes Review

A year after the release of his GRAMMY®-winning breakthrough—2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness—The Weeknd returns with Starboy, a double album of interstellar soul and feverish R&B that orbits around an ambitious title character. Bookended by two titanic but very different Daft Punk collaborations, it’s a listening experience that, from start to finish, speaks to the Toronto native’s mastery of both melody and mood. “It’s good to have darkness,” he told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. “Because when the light comes, it feels that much better.”

Not the same

I feel like 1/3 of the album reminds me of the old Abel. I've been XO from day one, but this is definitely different. I miss trilogy and kissland. Personally I like the more trippy/dark music from him. If you like pop music this album is 5 stars.

Stop

This was a mediocre album that was barraged by rave reviews before any songs even came out; it's annoying to see all the five star reviews that were there before the album even dropped. Personally, I found the album to be a crowd pleaser more than anything else. The Trilogy roots are almost undetectable, and the songs are more pop than r&b. Stop rating this album (or any album) 5 stars before it even comes out. Listen to it first.

A nine-track, 50-minute mixtape made available for free download on the Weeknd website, House of Balloons was based in morose ballads filled with drug references and sexual longing....
