iTunes Review

Dripping with gangsta menace, Mobb Deep’s uncompromising second album remains a masterpiece of furious New York hip-hop. While the grimy beats will get your head nodding, the vicious stick-up tales of MC duo Havoc and Prodigy will make your blood run cold on brutal highlights like the hard-hitting “Shook Ones Pt. II” and the brooding “Trife Life.” Unflinchingly bleak but undeniably thrilling, The Infamous is loaded with classic underground bangers, along with some of the rawest rhymes in hip-hop history.

I was going through my music the other day and decided to listen to some old albums and re-rate them. I gave pretty much every song on this album a 5-rating back then, and after listening to this album again, it only re-affirmed my previous beliefs and made me want to rate this even higher, sadly, on a scale of 1-5 there is no 6, if there was, I'd give this album that rating. This is one of my favorite albums of all time, any genre, doesn't matter. This is also one of the best rap albums of all time. I put it right under Ready to Die, Reasonable Doubt, Sittin' on Chrome, The Chronic and Illmatic. It's somewhere up there, a bonafide classic. Anyone who has listened to this album and doesn't call it NY rap perfection is smoking. 5 out of 5.

This album would steamroll over any new album.

Nuff Said.

a classic

the infamous is one fo the best rap albums of all time. it embodies everything that the hardcore rap genre was. both prodigy and havoc are great emcees. you can tell that when mobb deep describes things going on in the projects, they're for real. they've been there and it makes their songs even more credible plus they are fine lyricists. overall, just an incredible album. HIGHLY recomended for any hip hop fan.

As golden age rap suddenly gave way to West Coast gangsta in the early '90s, an East Coast variety of hardcore rap arose in turn, with Mobb Deep initially standing tall as one of New York's hardcore figureheads on the basis of their epochal album The Infamous. Released in April 1995, The Infamous was released almost exactly a year after Illmatic and about a half year after Ready to Die -- the debut masterpieces of Nas and the Notorious B.I.G., respectively, both albums likewise of momentous significance...
