Album Review

Madison Blues is, for a change, a different kind of Fleetwood Mac compilation. Most are rehashes of the fabled group's years with the elusive guitar genius Peter Green and his equally iconoclastic partner on the electric six-string, Jeremy Spencer. Green is only present on a couple of tracks here, the rest of this Recall two-disc comp is made up of the band fronted by Christine Perfect (née McVie) (most of the time) with Spencer and Danny Kirwan also taking turns in the vocal spotlight. It's all blues and rock & roll stomp; none of the pop material with Bob Welch is here, but it hardly matters, this is a different side of the band than is normally presented and it gives the persona of Perfect some added dimension and depth in fronting a band associated with such male-dominated music.

I Got Yer Fleetwood Mac, Right Here!

This is a pretty good compilation of the early blues years of Fleetwood Mac. It's a glimpse of what originally made this band great, and shows a bit of what the band lost after Buckingham and Nicks became members in 1976. Danny Kirtwan and Jeremy Spencer shine here, along with the rock solid and awesome rhythm section of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. "Bob Welch is hardly missed here?" says the I-Tunes review! Blasphemy! Kiln House, Bare Trees, Then Play On, Mystery to Me, and Penguin showcase some of the best and most important music ever produced by Fleetwood Mac, Without the first Fleetwood Mac recordings by Christine McVie, the I-Tunes collection is incomplete and an insult to Mac funs everywhere.

Great

This was a great time in the career of Fleetwood Mac! Hey iTunes whatever happened to "Bare Trees"?......

Just read

Just read "dougalmac" below and I can save my breath. All the Millions of people that "discovered" Fleetwood Mac in the late 70's when Buckingham and Nicks started adding their Pop drivel should check at least a little of this music out. They they can join the chorus of real Mac fans and ask I-Tunes to release the full recordings from the Peter Green and Bob Welsh era. The proceeds could go to voice lessions for Nicks from Christie McVie to learn how to sing the Blues and Rock.

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie — the rhythm section that provided the band with its...
