Choir of the Mind Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
EDITORS’ NOTES
Metric's albums are always packed with invigorating New Wave pop tunes, but when frontwoman Emily Haines steps out from behind the buzzing synths and icy guitars, her voice is truly given the shine it deserves. “Legend of the Wild Horse,” “Strangle All Romance,” and “Nihilist Abyss” are grand, soul-baring vocal and piano showcases that dig deep into love's extremes. “Fatal Gift,” one of the more upbeat tracks here, serves as both a takedown of consumer culture and an existential meditation when she sings, "All the things you own, they own you.”
