Editors’ Notes

Inspired by ambient dubstep and acts such as Everything But the Girl and Portishead, London Grammar's If You Wait is white-hot, a melancholy triumph of mood and nuance. With mournful pianos and jazzy breakbeats, soaring strings, and delicate guitars—all of it anchored by Hannah Reid's freight train of a voice—the album handily transcends easy comparisons to groups like The xx and Florence + The Machine. "Wasting My Young Years" sets Reid's wistful regrets against a backdrop of pianos and a shuffling house beat, while "Metal & Dust" incorporates a slinking garage rhythm. Then there are songs like "Strong," the sonics of which (pianos, guitars, a distant beat) mostly just smolder under Reid's colossal cooing.

Amazing debut album

Loved the album. They sound like the love child of the xx and florence welch

Can't wait to see them while they tour in the US.

Such Depth

The music on this album is utterly intoxicating. The vocals have a delicately fragile sensuality and instrumentals that create a stripped down rawness that reaches down to some deep core emotions. Beautifully done.

I've been waiting for London Grammar's album all summer and it doesn't disappoint.
They have such a unique sound, and Hannah's voice is hauntingly beautiful.
Every song is worth listening to over and over again, and the music really moves you through the combination of amazing music, beautiful lyrics and Hannah's mesmerizing voice.
While every track is wonderful, the standouts are Hey Now, Strong, Stay Awake, Metal and Dust and Wasting My Young Years.
I can't wait to see them live next month in Boston!

Genre: Alternative

English trio London Grammar combined sparse electronic pop in the model of the xx with dramatic, big-voiced lead singer Hannah Reid, whose vocals evoke contemporaries Florence Welch and Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes. Reid and guitarist Dan Rothman met in the dorms of Nottingham University where they began writing music together in 2009 and later added multi-instrumentalist Dot Major to complete the lineup. The following years saw them refine their sound with atmospheric electronics and subtle percussion,...
