EDITORS’ NOTES

White Violet began as the work of singer/songwriter Nate Nelson. For his second album, 2014’s Stay Lost, he put together a permanent band that play as an intuitive unit. The sounds are of the late-night variety. The album opener, “Weighs,” drifts unassumingly with shimmering beauty. However, “Fernandina,” the album’s liveliest cut, leaves room for the rhythm section to build up steam and guitarist Brad Morgan to let out a few aggressive howls. The main goal is to explore various modes of placidity. Songs like the sweetly fingerpicked “Mystery,” “All That I’ve Become” (with its space-like effects), and “Calendar” achieve varying degrees of mellowness.

About White Violet

Specializing in a kind of melancholy, bedtime, folky dream pop, Athens, Georgia-based White Violet is centered round the songs and vocals of writer and guitarist Nate Nelson. The band literally began at impromptu jams in Nelson's bedroom, officially becoming White Violet in 2012 when they began doing live gigs and released a debut album, Hiding, Mingling, recorded with engineer Andy LeMaster. A second album, Stay Lost, tracked in Kernersville, North Carolina and co-produced by Nelson and engineer and mixer Scott Solter, was released in the fall of 2014. ~ Steve Leggett
