Album Review

In most cases, bands put out these odds and sods collections for die-hard fans, to fulfill a record deal, or to stall while they're taking seven years to record a follow-up. Steal This Album!, on the other hand, definitely doesnot fit any of those ideals. First, it's almost impossible to think of this as an "outtakes" record. System of a Down has managed to make tracks from a seven-year period sound cohesive without having to embellish or sacrifice. Some might argue that maybe they're just treading water. Not true. If System proved anything with 2001's Toxicity, it's that they're one of the few breaths of fresh air out there in mainstream metal land. This collection is no different, and with its amazing pacing, it's hard to not be moved by what this band can do. Secondly, Steal This Album! has everything that a "normal" album release would have; it's heavy without being a burden, political without being condescending, and in some cases, downright beautiful. It's been mentioned that this is the link to what they've done and what they're moving towards. If that turns out to be true, the next one should be a monster.

Excuse me iTunes...

where is the "steal" button hahahaha Great Album

An Album Worth Stealing

System of a Down in my opinion is without a doubt, the greatest music group of all time. There isn't any topic that System can't cover, and this album is recorded proof of that, this album has a touch of everything needed to make a an awesome album. Among my personal favorites are Chic N Stu, Bubbles, Boom!, Nuguns, ADD, Mr. Jack, I-E-A-I-A-I-O, and just about all of them. topics range from war, to power struggles. Rebellious lyrics to F' the system to Drug dealers. i have said it before, and i'll say it again, system is the greatest ever. And this is a great album if ur looking for something similar to Toxicity but a little different. And without a doubt, "Steal This Album" is an album worth stealing.

Do Any Of You Even Know Why Its Called "Steal This Album!"?

while recording this album, some of the tracks were leaked onto the internet and stolen by people...BUT the songs werent finished yet, in many various ways...bass wasnt added, serjs final vocals werent used or a track just flat out hadnt been fully recorded, system didnt care that the album was leaked money-wise, but because fans were getting crappy versions of these songs, so its called steal this album as an encouragement...pretty much. or just telling you to go ahead and take it, the songs are done now, so its okay. the leaks are probably the reason why this album isnt as big as the others...even though its probably their second best work next to their self-titled debut, then STA, toxicity, mezmerize, then hypnotize. BUY THIS ALBUM. any work of system if too good to pass up, oh, and search for their songs: patterns, storaged, blue, starlight eyes, johnny, metro, marmalade, temper, honey, and dam. they were never on a system album. some were on various singles or EP's, but never a full-length studio album unless they were a bonus track in a different country. those 10 songs are all masterpieces. find them, listen, and love.

Biography

Formed: 1995 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Like many late-'90s metal bands, System of a Down struck a balance between '80s underground thrash metal and metallic early-'90s alternative rockers like Jane's Addiction. Their dark, neo-gothic alternative metal earned a cult following in the wake of the popularity of such likeminded bands as Korn and the Deftones. Vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan formed System of a Down in Southern California in the mid-'90s. They quickly earned...
