Reseña de álbum

Shame On You is a budget-priced, introductory compilation of Western swing fiddler and bandleader Spade Cooley. Although purists and collectors will find this disc incomplete, it gives new listeners a chance to sample Cooley's OKeh/Columbia recordings from the mid-'40s to the early '50s, featuring "Steel Guitar Rag," "You Never Miss the Water (Till the Well Runs Dry)," and "Shame On You." Unfortunately, two of Cooley's biggest hits, "Detour" and "You Can't Break My Heart," are inexplicably absent.

If you like western fiddlin'...this one's for you!

After watching a Quebe Sisters concert and hearing them talk about Spade Cooley, I became fascinated! His music just sounds "vintage." You've also got to check out the story on Wikipedia...he was accused of murdering his wife, went to prison, they let him out to do a benefit concert for the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Alameda County, where he suffered a heart attack and died. Anyway, this is just fun old music. I'm so happy to have found it on iTunes. Since I'm not seeing any recommendations linked to this one, check out Asleep at the Wheel, Quebe Sisters, and Two Tons of Steel if you like this style...

This guy Cooley could swing with a fiddle!

Don't really care for his style of music. I don't think he or his descendants should be profiting from the sounds of a murderer.

A musician and actor whose often sordid private life tended to overshadow his career as an entertainer, Spade Cooley was the self-proclaimed King of Western Swing, an innovator who at his peak led the largest band ever assembled in the annals of country music. The product of a multi-generational family of fiddle players, Donnell Clyde Cooley was born in Oklahoma in 1910, and at the age of four, his family moved to Oregon. Despite his impoverished background, Cooley was a classically trained fiddler,...
