Saddle's Saloon got me to stop and start thinking about country music today. America and country music use to represent American values just as Republicans and Democrats used to have a common core in those Christain values as well. Today's a different day and those things are not the same anymore. Country music is definitely showing more liberalism through singers like Reba, Carrie Underwood, and others. Even though I wouldn't consider this album liberal, when I heard the song Saddle's Saloon, it made me cringe thinking about the criticism that Steve threw towards George Bush "one and two" as the song goes (which I'm not a fan of). Republicans, conservatives, constitutionalist, Christians, are easy targets in our liberal entertainment culture which is typically found more in the East and West Coast states and even in larger cities within conservative states. It always makes me laugh to myself when I hear a caucasian man show how brave he is criticizing in the matter he does in the song in yet skips the first proclaimed black president Bill Clinton and the first black president Obama. I could make a better argument for criticism towards these two presidents and yet Steve chose to pick out the Bush's as would typically be heard from blue-collar dyed in the wool union people. My suggestion to Steve would be to get more educated on history and even his own beliefs to understand and create a litmus test to discern and not be lazy allowing newspapers and tv shows to do the thinking for him in politics whether they be independent, Republican, or Democrat.
Steve delivers. As always. This is a must have album for anyone that appreciates great songwriting and real music.
So darn good. Feel good country. Great stuff start to finish.
