Reseña de álbum

By the time of his debut album in 1982, guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Steve Wariner's sophisticated country-pop sound was already perfected, and it showed by the quality of the material. While the album only contained ten tracks, over half ended up on the country charts: "All Roads Lead to You," "Kansas City Lights," "By Now," "Your Memory," "Don't It Break Your Heart," and "Don't Plan on Sleepin' Tonight." The original album is out of print, but these songs can be found on any number of Wariner best-of collections.

An underrated, dare I say...genius?

Steve Wariner. One of Nashville's finest. The rare triple threat...singer, songwriter and top-flight musician. Although consistently overlooked by both the critical media and country historians, Wariner has nonetheless carved a legacy among fans of country radio, maybe to his own detriment? Could it be that this textbook Nashville label star is a victim of his own consitency? Afterall, we're talking about an artist that has had chart topping hits in three different decades (80's, 90's and 00's-not included on this 1998 release). It may be this legacy of great work that has woven Steve Wariner into the varied tapestry sewn by other greats before him. It's high time we start talking Hall of Fame for this Opry member. Standouts on this disc include: What I Didn't Do, The Weekend, Lynda, You Can Dream of Me, Small Town Girl, and Domino Theory.

Country Balladeer Before His Time

Steven Wariner's smooth voice and heartfelt lyrics were released during a tough time in the genre. Country music went through a difficult transition between the 70's and 80's. The style completely shifted as we welcomed the pop-influence on the genre. Surrounded by the hero's and heavyweights of the transition, Steve competed with singers and groups like George Strait, Alabama, Barbara Mandrel, Mickey Gilley...and so many others. It was all in the timing, as he was five years to early, but anyone who listened to Steve's first hits, especially, Lonely Women and the many other amazing songs, would have undoubtedly been addicted! Steve, I am a forever fan!

One of country music's most versatile performers, Steve Wariner grew up in suburban Indianapolis, interested in the Beatles on the radio as well as Chet Atkins and George Jones, the artists his father listened to most frequently. He started playing music in his dad's band, and by his high school years, he was playing local clubs. At age 17, he caught the ear of Dottie West, who persuaded him to join her band, and in that position he ended up playing bass on her classic 1973 single "Country Sunshine."...
