Album Review

The Millennium Collection: The Best of .38 Special focuses on the Southern rock group's original lineup and includes hits and radio staples like "Back Where You Belong," "Caught up in You," "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys," and "Rockin' Into the Night." Though it's not quite as comprehensive as Flashback, The Best of .38 Special's dozen tracks provide a good starting point for casual fans.

Great and Underrated Album, but...

If I were you, I'd spring for one of their other Best of compilations, such as "The Very Best of the A&M Years." It features many more songs and is available on iTunes for just over half the price of this one. As for the album, .38 Special is one of the most underrated bands of all time. This album does a fairly good job of capturing the band's career. Highlights of the album include: - Hold On Loosely: Probably the band's most widely known song, and one of their best tracks. Don't hesitate to download it. - Caught Up In You: Not the best song on the album, but still highly recommended if you have a dollar on you. - Fantasy Girl: This is another one of their best songs, and I would definitely suggest downloading it. Starts out slow, then picks up the pace after about 30 seconds. - If I'd Been the One: I think this may be their best song. A fast beat and catchy melody make for an outstanding track. If you only have one dollar, I would buy this one. - Twentieth Century Fox: This is one of their most terribly overlooked songs, so be sure to check it out. Once again, highly recommended. - Like No Other Night: Here's another unfairly skipped track that easily stands up to their biggest hits. In summary, this is an excellent album from an underrated band, and I highly recommend it. But If I were you, I'd spring for their "Very Best of the A&M Years" compilation instead. Happy listening =)

This is the best, its some real music instead of all that rub me and lick me junk like rap

Hold on Loosely is one of my favorite songs ever! The rest of the cd is good too, 5 stars all the way!

Initially, .38 Special were one of many Southern rock bands in the vein of the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd; in fact, the band was led by Donnie Van Zant, the brother of Skynyrd's leader, Ronnie Van Zant. After releasing a couple of albums of straight-ahead Southern boogie, the band revamped its sound to fall halfway between country-fried blues-rock and driving, arena-ready hard rock. The result was a string of hit albums and singles in the early '80s, highlighted by "Caught Up in You," "If...
