EDITORS’ NOTES

After shifting vocal duties over the years, rock legends Stone Temple Pilots have settled on a fresh direction after landing Jeff Gutt (of The X Factor USA fame) as their new leading man. Their powerful, self-titled seventh studio album—their first major release since 2013’s High Rise—delivers more of the turbulent, driving rock the band are known for, most notably on tracks “Roll Me Under” and “Meadow”. It’s not all in-your-face riffs, though—STP strip things back beautifully too, making way for the brilliant ballads “The Art of Letting Go” and “Thought She’d Be Mine”.

You’re Idiots! This is Classic STP!

Stop crying over Scott’s bad choices. He didn’t sound like himself after Purple and effed his voice up with drugs and couldn’t even remember his own lyrics live. Jeff sounds like “Core” Scott. And Chester fans please... This is NOT LINKIN PARK AND CHESTER QUIT THE BAND YEARS AGO! I love LP but he was a terrible fit for STP. Go be wrongly mad at Linkin Park for still playing without Chester. Btw Mike was the original singer and Chester was brought in to sing with him. Music fans have gotten stupid... Maybe Dave Grohl should have quit music after Kurt died and never started Foo Fighters... Jesus people... Get over it!

Glad they kept going

Blindly complaining that Jeff isn’t Scott or Chester, god rest their souls, won’t bring them back. The songs are great so far and I respect their decision to keep going. Besides, they sound great, can’t wait to see them live.

It works and it’s good. Very good!

Some might think it’s too soon for a review, but who cares. The two tracks are awesome. Loved Chester. God rest his soul in harmony. Jeff is a fit. He brings a whole new package, yet strangely holds a brilliant torch to the STP legacy.

If you are a critic, please take the time to be honorable to the three and new fourth member(s.)

Celebrate the fact that these guys want to carry on a legacy when many bands can’t or won’t do it. It’s a beautiful thing these guys are doing.
