Album Review

Although he suffers from undistinguished material, Uncle Sam's eponymous debut makes it clear that he is a promising contemporary R&B loverman. His husky yet smooth voice is seductive — sort of like if Barry White could croon — and he sounds good in the lush arrangements that dominate Uncle Sam. Unfortunately, he doesn't always have the songs to match his gospel-inflected delivery, but nevertheless, his singing demonstrates enough potential to make Uncle Sam a promising debut.

Great Album-Missing Artist

I bought this album back when it first came out. Been looking all over for it again as i lost my copy. The entire album is wonderful. And to those thinking he sounds like a member of Boyz II Men it may be because this album was produced by Boyz II Men's Record Label and he was somewhat of a protige of the group. I wish he would come out with some more material. So heres a long range pat on the back Uncle Sam, Wherever you are.

Uncle Sam: A Star Before His Time

Talk about a gift & a curse... Uncle Sam was basically the "baby brother" of Boyz II Men. His self-titled debut album was produced on their label, and several of the tracks were written by Shawn Stockman & Nathan Morris. So, although he had the full support of this legendary supergroup, he couldn't seem to break free from their dominant shadows... Uncle Sam came to us right in the middle of the Boyz II Men/Case era. And it didn't help that his vocals were very reminiscent of BOTH groups. But for those who thought he was a one-hit-wonder with his 1997 ballad "I Don't Ever Want To See You Again", they obviously never heard the entire album. New artists take note: THIS is what a REAL ALBUM is supposed to sound like!! You'd be hard-pressed to find two songs you DON'T like, as opposed to today's albums with ONLY one or two favorites... Nonetheless, Uncle Sam's debut album is the equivalent to finely aged wine: better over time. A decade later, this is not only a must-have classic, it's "mandatory music" for those of us who take pride in our CD collection.

I love this CD and his music.... He has some love making and some good grooves to compliment his voice!!!
