iTunes Review

Oval experimented with skipping CDs on 1994's Systemisch, but this 1995 follow-up is where he really gets lyrical with the technique. That may sound like a contradiction, but it's not: The 24-minute "Do While" is a daydream rendered in bell tones and staccato chimes, and the rest of the album is just as hazy and hypnotic, from the radio static of "Store Check" to the rumpled shoegaze of "Line Extension." Rarely has music so experimental sounded so much like a warm embrace.

Bliss at the end of the rabbit hole

A two year fall deeper into the rabbit hole into experimental electronica, through strata of Stockhausen, Namlook, Autechre, and various other artists and Oval came into the light. Though a forewarning might well be in order for those who tumbled into the hole by accident, this album, nor any other by Oval are to be missed by those who listen to music to listen. Buy this, find a quiet moment, put on your headphones and let yourself be astounded at the soundscapes unlike any other artist. Perfect soundtrack to an aurora borialis or full blown thunderstorm if you're not so lucky. Absolutely amazing.

fans of mouse on mars will love this album, this is a overall exiting and the muffled melody provides a soothing yet upbeat sound.

Their intriguing update of some elements of avant-garde composition, in combination with techniques of digital sound design, resulted in some of the most original, if somewhat challenging, electronic music of the 1990s. After Oval helped establish glitch as a distinct style -- as exemplified by Mille Plateaux's...
