The box set....

While rebuilding my Moodies collection... which had previously been LPs and cassettes. I had to think of the best way to go about it. I decided that I definitely DID want physical copies (Not downloads). So I began to make a list of CD's.... over the years, there had been reissues, remasters, deluxe editions, anniversary editions, box set compilations, live material, etc.... So instead of just buying each album... I had to really think about which versions to get. While thinking about it... My wife bought me the 50th Anninversary 5 Disc set for In Search Of The Lost Chord, which just blew me away. What an excellent package! So from there I purchased the 50th Anninversary Days Of Future Passed 3 Disc set. Again a knockout set. Next I purchased the 5 CD "Classic Albums" set... which got me through the next 5 albums. However, that 5 dis collection is not remastered... just the original CD releases.... which is fine by me. So at that point I had the Classic 7 albums. Next I purchased Live + 5, Octave, Long Distance Voyager, and The Present as Individual discs. Then I stumbled upon this box-set... The physical edition differs from this iTunes set, in that it contains 2 additional DVD's of the Red Rock show, and a documentary of that show. So with this set you get expanded and remastered editions of The Other Side Of Life, Sur La Mer, Keys To The Kingdom, Live At Red Rocks (the 2 CD Deluxe version), and a live disc from the Other Side Of Life Tour. Now some folks downplay this era in the bands career, but I personally like it just as much as their earlier stuff. Being packaged this way, makes it that much better. The improved sound quality and the extras, make it a very worthwhile collection. And it got me all the way through the remainder of the material that I wanted. So within 8 purchases, I attained the bulk of the Moody Blues recorded output. Which works out to a 16 full albums, some with extras... and 2 DVD's. Also with a physical copy of the Polydor Years... there is a really nice booklet (76 pages I believe)... and the overall packaging is top notch. I ordered mine online and with shipping and all it was about $45.... so it's only a few bucks more than the digital download version.
