Album Review

Recorded during May of 2008, Live at Massey Hall features Matthew Good and his full band performing at the famed Toronto venue. The "Side 1" version of the album features 12 tracks, including such songs as "Champions of Nothing," "Hello Time Bomb," "Load Me Up," and others. The remaining eight songs were also released as "Side 2," and a limited-edition double-disc version of the album was made available through Good's website.

Customer Reviews

awesome as ever

Typical of Matthew Good to put his all into a show, backed by a really good pick-up band of musicians who also should get more credit for coming together and learning the songs in a hurry (Stuart Cameron - guitar, lap steel, Milos Angelov - bass, Blake Manning - drums, Peter Nunn - keyboards), backing Matt. There's a little rough around the edges-ness to this release but it definitely merits five stars. Also interesting is the audience isn't a big part of the recording, in fact they're barely audible, so this sounds more like a live recording of the band, rather than a live performance, which is just as well, it makes it more intimate. Great purchase!

Finally

Matthew Good has been a hero of mine for a long time. My wife and I drove 600 miles to see him in Kingston, Ontario. I believe that show wrapped up the fourth consecutive night that week. Both shows are fantastic. He's one of those artists who writes songs that really feel like they're about your life. I can't wait for a return to Virginia.

A long time coming...

Fans of Matthew Good have been waiting for a live album for some time and Live at Massey Hall does not disappoint. Not only does Matt perform his more recent solo stuff, but he brings out a few classic MGB tracks like Hello Time Bomb and Apparitions. Overall an amazing album! Tracks like Weapon, Champions of Nothing and Load Me Up really stand out. Great deal for the price.

Canadian singer/songwriter Matthew Good rose to prominence in the mid-'90s fronting the popular alt-rock group Matthew Good Band.
