SpanFan

Fell in love with his voice when he sang for Span. This isn't the same kind of music but God the guy is talented. Real mellow, chill tunes.

A Soulful Gem

I was a fan of Bernhoft's cool, smoky voice from his time in the Norwegian hard rock band SPAN, so I was stunned to hear this solo album full of retro soul, sounding like Sly and the Family Stone meets Lenny Kravitz with a dash of Prince.

His gritty portrayals of life in Oslo aren't exactly the stuff of American hit radio, but the songs have an undeniable groove and hipness. This 2008 release sounds like it came forward in time from 1975. I don't typically buy soul albums, but with amazing songs like "In the Street Where the World Passes Me By," "Streetlights," "So Many Faces" and "Sunday," I was more than willing to make an exception.

One of my favorite albums.
