Album Review

Vitamin's String Quartet Tribute to Iron Maiden draws primarily from the pioneering U.K. metal band's fertile early-'80s streak: Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave. It starts strong with "Run to the Hills," "The Number of the Beast," and "Two Minutes to Midnight," all three of which feature stirring violins and crisp changes. The addition of light percussion to the normal lineup of violin, viola, and cello is also an interesting move. Later highlights include "The Trooper" as well as the Somewhere in Time favorite "Wasted Years." It would be impossible for the musicians here to fully replicate the power and rapid-fire playing of Iron Maiden. But they are able to climb into the grandeur and ambitious structure of these songs, and that's something in which Maiden fans are sure to be interested.

In Which I Am Able To Listen To HTD Without Screaming In Pain

Any "Hey There Delilah" fans out there, don't get me wrong. I do like the tune and the lyrics in this song, but the fact that it was played every 30 min, everyday on the radio made it a tad unbareable. Other than that, it's a good song. :) But The VSQ has made it a very melodious and easy to stand. And for that, I thank them. THe CD is probably a good choice for any Plain White T's fan, the music sounds so... sweet I guess is the best word to describe it. Hope this helps!

why even bother with a review

this is like all other VSQ albums, excellent, which should be a known fact since it is by VSQ, so basically buy it!!!

An extremely pleasant surprise!

This came up in my search for a song, and of course I was surprised to see that a string quartet took these songs and played them. When I heard it, I had to buy it. The very songs that get annoying after hearing them 50 times a day on the radio are given a new lease of life by these somewhat slower tunes that are much easier (and in the case of some songs, more fun) to listen to. Well done, and a must buy! (I'm a teenager, and I'd like to tell any parent whose kid can't handle a second of classical music to make them listen to these!)
