A nice change...

I've had this album for awhile now and it has really started to grow on me. I was intrigued that Preston, a player known for his guitar pyrotechnics involving lots of tapping and slaps, would decide to pick up an archtop and record some beautiful, thoughtful arrangements of original music as well as jazz standards. The sound of the guitar is quite nice, the sound of a bare bones archtop with little or no effects that may draw attention away from the voice of the guitar. The arrangements are quiet and sometimes meditative, and it seems that Preston is enjoying getting into the harmonies that solo jazz guitar can offer. I really enjoyed hearing this unexpected side of Preston, and I hope that this is the beginning of a long road as he continues to explore the world of jazz. He has a nice and delicate touch...
