Playtime is Definitely Worth Pressing Play

"This is the debut album from Sparrow, a Brighton four-piece who arrive with a carefully thought-out manifesto: lyrically, they celebrate the simple things in life that we often take for granted, making them, according to their label, “a contrary set of voices in a culture that says what you have is not good enough and who you are is wrong”. Excellent. We could do with more of those. Musically, they limit themselves to playing everything live, with no overdubs and no processing — not even reverb on the vocals. Fortunately, they don’t get so bogged down in their own rules that they forget to make any decent music. Their hushed boy/girl harmonies, sparkly guitars and restrained melodies combine to create a sound that references Low, Television and Bends-era Radiohead, and is as intriguing as that set of influences suggests." –Mark Edwards, Sunday Times
