Brilliant and Moving

I cant believe I am the first one to write a review on this album. It's a couple of years old and still gets constant play. Perfect on a Sunday afternoon. A good start for those not so much into country, yet have a soft spot for great lyrics and musicians who know how to move you through cadence and subtlety as opposed to screming. All are good, but love tracks 1,3,5,6, and the most amazing number 10! She is the real deal and a fellow Alabamian!

Through the years her voice remains one of the most beautiful and ethereal in all recorded music. Not many vocalist (who happens to be one of the most accomplished acoustic guitarist of our time) can express the subtlety of a song. Her voice can soar and whisper, and hit every note and emotion in between. My favorites are Strong Hand and Lost Unto This World. Have to mention Plaisir d'Amour (a beautiful french version of "I can't Help Falling In Love")...Emmylou's voice in french...she had me at Plaisir.

Achingly Beautiful

Emmylou sings with a sometimes world-weary, yet also hopeful and undefeated voice. Some of these songs will just pierce your heart as the singing empowers the lyrics. On my first listen, as I heard "Lost Unto This World" and "Cup of Kindness" in sequence, I had to stop what I was doing, just stand still as chills ran up and down my back.

If Emmylou had never recorded anythign other than this collection of songs, her life would be worthy of a full-size biography to try and understand how such a singer and voice came to be.

Though other performers sold more records and earned greater fame, few had as profound an impact on contemporary music as Emmylou Harris. Blessed with a crystalline voice, a remarkable gift for phrasing, and a restless creative spirit, she traveled a singular artistic path, proudly carrying the torch of "cosmic American music" passed down by her mentor, Gram Parsons. With the exception of only Neil Young -- not surprisingly an occasional collaborator -- no other mainstream star established a similarly...
