Editors’ Notes

Hailing from Lawrence, Mass., Reks debuted back in 2000 with the much-loved 12-inch single "Skills 101." Extremely lyrical, with high-caliber storytelling abilities, he has since released several great albums (including Along Came the Chosen and Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme) but remains relatively unknown outside Boston. On Straight No Chaser, he again teams with fellow Law-Town homie Statik Selektah, who produces all 14 tracks and brings his signature blend of ultra-rugged drums and dusty, soul-drenched loops to the table. Reks' thoughtful songwriting focuses on real-life struggles and triumphs, with rhymes that are undeniably quotable but also easy to relate to. Pretty much every song here is dope, but "Sit/Think/Drink," "Such a Showoff," "Break Ups," and "Regrets" are standouts. Straight No Chaser also features strong collabos with Action Bronson, Slaine, and Termanology, among others.
