Album Review

In Search of a Rose is an alternative Celtic-rock group from Germany. They are a well-produced band whose members are highly skilled at their respective instruments. Although they exude plenty of attitude, they're not obsessed with slapping you upside the head at every turn, nor do they feel that singing songs about whiskey is the primary means of legitimizing their existence within the genre. ISOAR is anchored by Daniel Eberhard on vocals, banjo, mandolin and bouzouki, and Maze on vocals, mandolin, and banjo, but invaluable support is provided by Vio on tin whistle and Eddie on accordion. Guests Johannes Schiefner (uilleann pipes) and Susanne Hill (fiddle) also make significant contributions on Fresh Lotus Surprise. They could also serve as a model group for part-time Celtic rockers like Young Dubliners, who flirt with the concept but fail to take the full plunge.

Their impressive debut recording Conquering (1995) was well-received in select regions of Germany, but...
