iTunes Review

The deathcore band unleashes a fifth full-on assault of the senses.

Mitch is probably turning in his grave. They should have at least had the decency to change the band name before releasing such garbage.

Suicide Inducing

I would point out that none of the criticism that has been directed at this particular song has been constructive, but I'm about to dismantle it in a rather un-constructive manner myself.

Generally, I find deathcore to be a pretty eclectic branch of extreme metal that tends to push boundaries as far as lyrical content and unique song structure devices, especially by the groups that laid the ground work for the genre; Bring me the Horizon, Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel, etc. This generally leads to polarity where fans are lost and also gained. The band in question however, seems to be pushing the boundaries not necessarily too far, but just in the wrong direction. Certainly, music is a subjective topic; it is totally based on opinion. My opinion is, Suicide Silence is running out of steam. As a pioneer of the deathcore subgroup, there is a lot of pressure the California based quintet to maintain this sort of brutal, traditional death metal inspired status quo while attempting to prevent going stale. Unfortunately, the group attempts to implement poorly executed clean vocals performed by now front man, Eddie Hermida, who less than shines on the single, Doris. Clean vocals aside, the production falls flat, and the song writing sounds tired and tried.

All in all, Doris as it stands is an incredibly weak attempt to challenge the status quo that was originally created by this band to begin with, and as a fan, I hope that the rest of the record can impress upon release.

Wow this is awful

Why? This can't be serious. So awful it's almost hilarious.

Genre: Metal

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Riverside, California's Suicide Silence formed in 2002. A quintet, the band specialized in that 21st century metal phenomenon known as deathcore and was signed to international mega-metal label Century Media. The band managed to get things rolling quickly, save for a few lineup changes, and went from formation to deal in a mere two years. In the meantime, Suicide Silence issued one pre-deal EP -- the simply titled Suicide Silence -- which saw the light of day on indie labels At the Deep End and SOS...
