Sun Mountain

Sometimes it's fun to listen to early efforts by favorite artists. This is not the case here. I have everything these guys have ever done and have seen them in concert and have followed their careers for years. I even have a copy of their appearance with Marian McPartland on NPR's Piano Jazz. Sun Mountain was obviously a very early effort, before they found their "groove" for want of a better term. Some things should definitely not be let out for public consumption, unless of course, they want folks to say - "Wow! They've definitely come a long way!!! I'd pass this one by and just listen to all the other marvelous stuff that only Steely Dan can do - and the solo projects, of course.

This album is the first recording efforts by Fagen and Becker, and should not be confused with new material. Very basic and rudimentary, it gives a view into the early stages of what is now known as a great songwriting and production team.

The Vault

A dedicated fan of anything Fagen & Becker...however some things should remain in the vault and never see the light of day. Sorry guys this is one of those times. Seal the vault and never, ever, let this out again.

His 1982 solo debut, The Nightfly, was the best album he had made in years; it covered the same ground as the last two Steely Dan albums, yet surpassed them in terms of ambition and achievement....
