12 Songs, 43 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

"Every day every hour, turn that pain into power," sings Danny O'Donoghue on "Superheroes." It's one of many messages of self-empowerment the Irish trio deliver on their fourth studio effort, a collection of monster tunes for which the designation "arena rock" falls short. A more classically rocking album than the 2012 single "Hall of Fame" (guitars and live drums abound), it's no less anthemic, with tracks like "The Energy Never Dies" and "Army of Angels" shooting for the stars. Yet it's the Ryan Tedder–assisted "Flares"—a smoldering, piano-driven ballad with astral overtones—that steals the show.

Mixed bag

No Sound Without Silence is a mixed bag of good and bad. You get some really good songs like No Good In Goodbye and Flares, and then you get some not so great ones like It's Not Right For You. My reviews for each song:

No Good In Goodbye - 9/10. This is probably my favorite song from the album. Really catchy and clever lyrics.

Superheroes - 7/10. Classic pop single. Not bad, not great.

Man on a Wire - 8.5/10. One of my favorites. Really catchy chorus.

It's Not Right For You - 2/10. This song is pure toilet to my ears. Nothing in this song worked for me.

The Energy Never Dies - 8/10. Really good song. The time signature makes it pretty unique and interesting.

Flares - 9/10. This is so close to being a perfect song. I just wanted them to take it up a notch dynamically at the end. It felt like something was missing in the last half of the song.

Army of Angels - 7.5/10. Really good song! I liked it a lot but it felt like something was missing.

Never Seen Anything "Quite Like You" - 9/10. Loved it. It feels like the most complete song on the album.

Paint The Town Green - 7/10. Cool vibes just not my thing.

Without Those Songs - 5/10. Completely forgettable.

Hail Rain or Sunshine - 8.5/10. Great song. Upbeat feel-good song that's catchy.

Howl at the Moon - 9/10. This one is a gem. It's one that caught me off guard and finishes off the album leaving you with a good taste in your mouth.

Overall it's a good album but almost every song felt really incomplete. Ever since Science and Faith the Script seemed to be going downhill. There are glimpses of them getting out of their slump in No Sound Without Silence, but it's far from being a great album like their first two were.

Just Amazing

The Script has never failed to impress. They have amazing and meaningful lyrics and make it actually sound good. They aren't cliche like some others *cough*cough*onedirection*and I just freaking love their awesome style from words to the beat to how it can be about wanting a girl back, getting back up on your feet, etc. They're so inspiring and I can't wait for this album to come out! Love the script with all my heart
