Editors’ Notes

After crafting the majestic Badmotorfinger, Soundgarden was more confident than ever that they could make the kind of album that almost anyone could enjoy without compromising their sound. Superunknown proves this point, with an exclamation point. It's Soundgarden's most inspired album, saturated with bristling tunes and electrifying performances that dramatically expand the band's artistic vision without ever sounding self-indulgent. Key tracks: "Black Hole Sun," "Fell on Black Days," and "Spoonman." The expansive 20th Anniversary edition includes rehearsal takes, live tracks, remixes, and demos.

Gasp.

Has it really been 20 years already?? Time flies.

Time Flew by

Now I feel old. I remember my mom and dad listening to stuff like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath and I thought that was great but still old school. Now I hear Soundgarden and think the same. Its great because all the same stuff is on and its greatness cant be disputed. I already have 75% of whats on here. I love them but there is no reason for people like myself to spend $25 for what you already have. Anyone who is just figuring out who they are would only have to buy this one album. I recommend getting the actual cd albums. Chris Cornell and Kim are super smart on the instuments they incorporate in their songs. WHo would have though a banjo would work so well in hard rock. They are the kings of 90's Hard Rock. Yes they are Hard Rock!

20 years later, still a phenomenal venture by four talents! Good luck tonight.

Soundgarden made a place for heavy metal in alternative rock. Their fellow Seattle rockers Green River may have spearheaded the grunge sound, but they relied on noise rock in the vein of the Stooges. Similarly, Jane's Addiction were too fascinated with prog rock and performance art to appeal to a wide array of metal fans. Soundgarden, however, developed directly out of the grandiose blues-rock of Led Zeppelin and the sludgy, slow riffs of Black Sabbath. Which isn't to say they were a straight-ahead...
