Editors’ Notes

Don’t be misled by the title of War of Ages’ seventh album—the tracks of Supreme Chaos display a masterful sense of focus and control. After muscling their way to the front ranks of Christian metal, the Pennsylvania quintet confirm their stature with this musically confident and spiritually assertive release. Over the years, War of Ages have shown an ability to avoid wallowing in metallic torpor thanks to their collective agility and precision. These qualities are heightened by the presence of newly recruited Jack Daniels (formerly of Hope for the Dying), who makes his influence felt both as songwriter and guitarist. Together with co-lead player Steve Brown, he brings out the grandeur in “Lionheart,” “Still Small Voice,” and similar bone-crushing workouts. The slink and churn of “Chaos Theory” veers into the hard-chopping rhythms of “On Broken Wings” before settling into the stomping balladry of “Ecstasy.” Frontman Leroy Hamp dives into this musical maelstrom with a crusader’s fervor, howling down the demons of fear and doubt with an urgency you can feel. Cogent and compelling, this is the work of a band at the top of their game.

Customer Reviews

War of Ages is back in full force!

I received my physical pre-order in the mail today. I hardly like to buy things off of iTunes because the quality is lower than the standard cd. I win since I got it early, and you win since you can hear a review from someone who already has it. The song writing is top notch, they try new elements which keeps them sounding fresh, the production and mixing is out of this world. It’s their catchiest and heaviest record to date. This is War of Ages back after 2 years of little activity, and the break did them good.

War of ages sounds the same

That's what people always say about their albums. But this time they switch it up on you. Let's see what they say now. I have listened to the album more than 5 times now and I can honestly say it has so many things good things going for it. From the guitar rifs to the clean vocals to the lyrics each song has it's own element but comes together beautifully. The only down side is that it's only ten tracks haha but I'm just being greedy now.

Very good

One does not simply not like War Of Ages

Formed: 2003 in Erie, PA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Based out of Erie, Pennsylvania, decibel-pushing, spiritually charged Christian metalcore outfit War of Ages specializes in a muscular blend of post-hardcore/screamo and melodic, faith-based death metal. Formed in 2002 under the moniker Point Zero, the band issued its first album under the name War of Ages via Strike First Records in 2005. The buzz from that album carried the group over to Facedown Records for their sophomore outing, 2006's Pride of the Wicked. 2008's Facedown-issued Arise and Conquer...
