The Best Survivor album

I have this on vinyl, 2 copies. It's their best album, with Premonition being a close second. More people should discover this gem!!!!

One of my all time favorites

A great initial effort from the band. The best songs are "Somewhere in America", "Can't Getcha Offa My Mind" and "20/20. This album had great potential in that from top to bottom the content was on par with some similar bands of the era, such as, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Journey, and Foriegner; and better than offerings from bands like Kansas and Shooting Star, that got much more airplay nationally. Another unfortunate miscalculation was leaving great songs like Rockin' into the Night and Rebel Girl off of the album; they were probably the best songs the group recorded, outside of "Eye of the Tiger". I saw Survivor open for Krokus at ChicagoFest the summer this was released. What a great night.

Interesting debut

This Survivor album has more of a rock edge compared to some of their others.

1) Nothing Can Shake Me (From Your Love) - My favorite song on the album. This song starts off somewhat slow and low-key and then, during the middle, erupts into an intense, passionate, emotive hard rock vocal. The mix of slow and soft combined with hard and passionate in this song really works for me. It's my favorite vocal performance by Dave Bickler.

2) Let it Be Now - Catchy rocker. I have always liked Frankie's guitar work.

3) As Soon As Love Finds Me - Another catchy number. I like the backing vocals on this number.

4) Freelance - A hard-edged song with a lot of personality. It's the Survivor song that reminds me most of Peterik's Ides of March work. It has a lot of the same kind of swagger and personality that "Vehicle" did.

5) Love Has Got Me - I like the verses on this song. But, the backing vocals on the chorus make it sound too repetitive for me. This song was mostly sung by Peterik with a small segment of the song featuring Bickler's vocals.
