Another strong album by overlooked band

One of my all time favorite bands, led by one of the most unique lead singers in rock. So far, this is my third favorite album by Puressence (after their debut and Only Forever). Definitely their most "mature" album, well written and epic in scope. Maybe a tad too somber, with one too many down tempo dirges, but check out the opening track and "Our Number's Oracle" for an update on their signature sound. Please come to the States!

Surprise and delight!

What a treat! I had no idea this was coming out!! Overall, it's a bit too down tempo for my usual taste, but Puressence always puts their own signature sound on the tracks, making them stand out from most of the everyday garbage you hear.

Also, to the haters: Puressence was around LONG before Evanessence, also Puressence is from the UK. Deal with it.

Please come to America to play some shows!!

Another amazing album by the most underappreciated band in the world

I have been a huge Puressence fan since the early '90s. They are one of my favorite bands of all time (please come to America so I can see you live!) I agree with some of the other reviewers that Only Forever is probably my favorite album by them, but it was the first one I purchased. This is a tremendous follow-up to Don't Forget to Remember, which had some really catchy songs. I've only just finished my first listen to Solid State Recital, but I can already tell that I will be listening to it every day for a long time to come. James Mudriczki's falsetto voice is haunting and in full form on Solid State Recital. I challenge anyone to buy this album and not fall in love with it. It is a crime that Puressence hasn't made it big on the scale of U2 or Coldplay - truly an epic band and this album does nothing but enhance their already great catalog. I just hope they keep making music like Solid State Recital for a long time to come!

Formed: Failsworth, Manchester, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Ignored by the majority but adored by a faithful, modest few, Failsworth, Manchester's Puressence were something of a contradiction in terms. Although they shared a laddish image and an implied arrogance with the mid-'90s incarnations of other north west England indie rock acts such as Oasis and the Charlatans, the high-register, ethereal vocals of frontman James Mudriczki pointed to something altogether more sophisticated. Claims that the band met on a bus on the way to the Stone Roses' legendary...
