A lovely acoustic album with a classical touch

Daan is known for their - at times cheap - electronic sound, so an acoustic album by this original band is something to make you curious. Like Talk Talk suddenly breaking free from It's My Life in the mid-80s. Somewhere deep down I have always waited for someone to make an album that is acoustic but still rock, modern but classical, and suddenly, here it is... Produced by a fairly obscure band outside their home borders of Belgium, Daan revisits their old standards and turns them into classical rock jewels. Deep voice, no synthesizers, the result is haunting and first made me think of a more pop oriented Leonard Cohen - pop yes but with a very hot quality stamp all over. This is world class, stylish music without cheap beats and sounds but lots of strings and guitars, and even intrusions into jazz and country music. An album you listen to like you watch a movie: giving it eighty minutes of your full attention, knowing it will bring you thrills and ultimately turn you into a peaceful, satisfied state. And unlike a movie, you can listen to it tomorrow again and be drawn into an entirely new experience. Daan also writes soundtracks for indie films, let’s hope one day he brings this sound to a motion picture... but in the meantime, discover Simple, discover Daan, and you’ll soon share your disbelief that this artist is not rock star.

Since that time, Daan has released several...
