It's such a pleasure to use ITunes to find my favorite oldies and new music. To shop from your own house is fantastic! Sweet Emma is no longer with us, but her music lives on and gives enjoyment to so many people.

My parents saw Sweet Emma in New Orleans in the 70's . Ever since then I have been hooked. This is New Orleans at its best !!

A disappointment with Sweet Emma

In my youth I had a latter album by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band that I remember enjoying. That one was recorded after Sweet Emma’s participation. Unfortunately I am irritated by Emma’s singing and unenthusiastic about her piano playing.

Although New Orleans' traditional jazz scene had many top players in the 1950s, there was no one center for the city's veteran greats to play. In 1961, local art dealer Larry Borenstein opened a building in the French Quarter called Preservation Hall. The young tuba player Allan Jaffe ran the hall and organized tours for the musicians who often performed there, naming the band after the venue.
