Karl Bšhm was one of the last and best links between the late Romantic age of Vienna and the modern age of stereo recording. A close friend of Richard Strauss, he was also heir to the tradition of Mahler through the great composer-conductor's protegŽ, Bruno Walter. He helped to preserve the city's illustrious musical legacy through World War II with his authoritative interpretations of those eminent Vienna-dwellers Beethoven and Schubert in particular, so we are fortunate indeed to have these spectacular stereo recordings of Beethoven's beloved "Pastoral" Symphony and an uplifting performance of one of Schubert's most joyful compositions.
BOHM'S RECORDING OF BEETHOVEN'S 6TH IS WAY BETTER THAN KARAJAN'S!
It's true. This recording is way better than Karajan's! Bohm takes the tempos how they should be, he didn't cut the third movement short, and this recording couldn't be better! Best Pastoral and Schubert's Fifth you will ever hear! I'm shocked that I'm the first review! This album should be more popular! Or at least more popular than Karajan's version.
Great Beethoven 6th
Karl Bohm's recording of Beethoven's 6th Symphony is one of the best, right alongside the recording made by his mentor / teacher Bruno Walter and the great George Szell.
