Eliane, Family and Friends in a Superb Set

Great performances. Eliane sings and plays some wide-ranging standards from jazz, MPB, rock, and pop. With husband Marc Johnson, ex-Randy Brecker, daughter Amanda Brecker, and special guest Gilberto Gil, this is a clear winner of great beauty and "swing-i-tude:".

On the Beach...

Gazing at a sunny, cloudless horizon, with a cool fruity drink, and a book in hand (or not)....pure vacation! Love it!

Exquisite Return!

Not since the wonderful "Bossa Nova Stories" have I heard anyone do a collection like Eliane Elias. Some Brazilian and some U.S. Pop, but all beautifully arranged, performed and recorded. "Stay Cool" really shocked me, for as some of us EE fans have discussed, her use of some rare, but banal pop titles and tunes leaves one a little disappointed. So the title led me to think, "I'll skip that one!" I am so glad I did not, for "Sray Cool" was one of the gems here. If any of you remember or listen to early Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, like "Equinox" you will know what I am talking about here, with the aggressive piano style she can emit! My second "shock" was "Take 5," which has been re-hashed so many times, yet treated with reverence here. Both she, and husband Michael deserve grammys for this effort!
This disc is a gem and seems to prove this woman is not to be defined by styles, or decades, because she really knows how to keep it fresh. Both in physical beauty and musically, I see Elaine Elais as ageless, or is that just me?

The classical tradition meets the spontaneity of jazz through the virtuosic playing of Brazil-born and New York-based pianist Eliane Elias. A former member of jazz ensemble Steps Ahead, Elias has continued to explore two distinct musical streams through her solo recordings and her performances since the mid-'80s. In 1993 she became one of the few artists to release jazz and classical albums simultaneously. In a review of a concert in her homeland, Brazil magazine praised Elias for "her dazzling right-hand...
