Day of the Dead (Deluxe Edition)

Day of the Dead (Deluxe Edition)

The six men of Hollywood Undead got famous by making hard-slamming rap-metal. Their fourth album is as muscular and raw-boned as ever, but they’ve injected more pop and shout-along choruses. The doomsday melody of “How We Roll” recalls Linkin Park but raps of modern-day L.A., detailing its sleazy underbelly where “packing heat” is essential. The title track calls out ugly TV evangelists who rob their congregations, and “War Child” vacillates among heady dance grooves, hypnotic melodies, and a searing rap of male insecurity. “I’ll Be There” is a pure pop left turn that surprises in a beguiling way.
