iTunes Review

Hozier's self-titled debut is a spine-tingling tour of soulful rock ’n’ roll. The Irish singer/songwriter sets the stage with "Take Me to Church,” where a lover’s lament unfolds with a dose of gothic drama. Hozier’s openhearted storytelling is paired with dusky, understated soul (“Someone New”), explosive blues-rock (“Jackie and Wilson”), and shadowy love ballads (“In a Week”).

Customer Reviews

Very talented Man

This album is awesome. The soulful sounds and deep lyrics. I am amazed and can't wait to buy the CD so I can blare it in my car everyday. My wish is for people everywhere to hear this album!

Haunting.

Hozier's debut album is a shear work of art. A gem floating in an ocean of terrible music. His voice is so unique and filled with emotion, his lyrics like poetry, and the instrumentation is packed with soul.

"Take Me to Church" (9/10)
The smash hit that made his name and that's still dominating the charts. A song about living and loving how and who you want, despite what others may say. Fantastic song.

"Angle of Small Death and the Codeine Scene" (10/10)
This song might just have the best title ever. WHAT a title! And what a song it is! A song about passion, and first, dark experiences in love. One of my favorites.

"Jackie and Wilson" (10/10)
An amazing love song. "She's gonna save me, call me baby, / Run her hands through my hair," Just a taste of the lyrical treat this song beholds.

"Someone New" (10/10)
A song about love. But not your normal kind of love. The love that you give away all to freely. Love at its most empty and hollow.

"To be Alone" (9/10)
A song about being alone with your love. That feeling that we all love and crave that can only comes from being alone with her/him.

"From Eden" (10/10)
This song is about another thing that we can all relate to. The sweet, sweet sin done in the name of love.

"In a Week" (10/10)
This song is an amazing story. A story about two lovers who run away together to the hills and die there in each other's arms. Hozier and Karen Cowley's voices compliment each other perfectly, creating a beautiful song.

"Sedated" (10/10)
A song about about addiction and how it destroys you and the relationships you have. Such a sad, but gorgeous song.

"Work Song" (10/10)
A tale of faithfulness and love that extends beyond the grave, even when it shouldn't. One of his older songs. A gem.

"Like Real People Do" (10/10)
This song is about faithfulness and putting the past behind. "I would not ask you, / Where you came from, / I would not ask, / And neither should you, / Honey just put your sweet lips on my lips, / We could just kiss like real people do,"

"It Will Come Back" (10/10)
A song about a man warning his lover to stay away. A song about a monster. The monster of desire.

"Foreigner's God" (10/10)
This one is about grief. And the kind of wound only love can inflict.

"Cherry Wine" (10/10)
Another one of his older songs. This song is a live acoustic version. A testimony to how spectacular his voice really is.

"In the Woods Somewhere (Bonus Track)" (10/10)
I happily paid the extra $ for the bonus tracks. This first one is one of my favorites of his. This song is a horror story that gives you chills.

"Run (Bonus Track)" (10/10)
The second bonus track is a perfect outro to this amazing album.

Stop right now and listen to this

Hozier was the first time in a long time that I listened to both SNL musical performances all the way through. Don’t miss out on this incredible album!
