iTunes Review

Chicago’s Eleventh Dream Day have been rocking small clubs since 1981, soldiering on like Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo, while other bands break-up and reunite and reap the rewards of a “comeback.” Riot Now! is the band’s first full-length release in five years and it continues the group’s streak for powerful sonics and intense tunes. “Satellite” has both an undeniable hook and a space-jam breakdown that proves the group can still generate Sonic Youth- Yo La Tengo -Pavement styled indie-rock with the best of them. Leader Rick Rizzo’s been an underrated rocker for decades, drawing comparisons to Neil Young’s Crazy Horse for his adherence to tough guitar workouts and live takes meant to break your heart. Riot Now! was recorded as a live performance and everything works. The celebratory boy-girl vocals of “Divining for Water” between Rizzo and Janet Beveridge Bean are a welcomed diversion here, a touch of sweetness amidst the maelstrom.

There are a few real strong tracks here. Damned Tree, Satellite and Sonic Reactor are great! If you are new to the band you may want to try some older stuff too. Recommendations: Orange Moon and Bearish On High from Ursa Major album and the entire El Moodio album is a classic. Great to have some new material from one of Chicagos greats! Thx guys-

Eleventh Dream Day's origins dated to 1981, when singer/guitarist...
