Tanz der Vampire, a musical (or so-called "grusical") based on Roman Polanski's 1967 film, The Fearless Vampire Killers, first appeared in 1997, and was a smash hit, running in Vienna for over two years and winning the Image Award for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. This tenth anniversary concert album was recorded in the Raimund Theater in Vienna, home of the original production, with a new cast, except for Gernot Kranner, who reprised his role of Professor Abronsius. This concert recording also featured Thomas Borchert as Count von Krolock, Lukas Perman as Alfred, and Marjan Shaki as Sarah. Big tunes and lush orchestration made this musical a crowd-pleaser, and many fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera have taken this supernatural show to their hearts., Rovi
I've heard and seen different versions of the play, and absolutely love this soundtrack.
Ok this album is perfection! I absolutely love thomas borchert and this album made me love him more and all the cast in here (I believe marjan shaki as sarah and lukas perman as Alfred) did a wonderful job!
What have they done to this show?
Okay. I remember when Tanz came out, the show was utterly amazing. Steve Barton was a perfect Von Krolock, his dark baritone was thrilling to listen to. So, when they announced a new recording I was stoked.
..Until I heard it.
Thomas Borchert is by far the worst Von Krolock I have ever heard, he seems to not understand the character, or even care. The new arrangements are utterly cheap and fake sounding.
Everyone else is pretty bad too, steer clear from this recording, and try to find the original cast.
