Album Review

Pure Heroine is the debut album from New Zealander Ella Yelich-O'Connor, better known as Lorde. She was spotted at the young age of 12, singing at a talent show in her hometown near Auckland, and subsequently signed to Universal. She shot to prominence in early 2013 with a hugely popular EP, The Love Club, which produced the single "Royals." The record was written with producer Joel Little and showcases her indie-tinged electro-pop sound., Rovi

Lorde is one of those quirky, unique, and brilliantly subversive young artists that come around every few years to blow us away with their raw talent and incredible musical passion. At just 16 years old, the New Zealand native has already found some surprising success in "Royals," an irresistibly moody and majorly relevant anti-fame anthem that's literally unlike anything ever featured on mainstream radio. It's clear that this girl wants to bring music back in a way that's personal and real (not artificial and manufactured). And that's exactly the kind of quality she delivers on terrific songs like "Ribs" and "Tennis Court." But my favorite track of hers thus far has got to be "Team," a melodically gorgeous pop production with a minimalist beat, gleaming synths, and wise-beyond-her-years lyricism. This is seriously the kind of fresh, unmistakable talent that truly shouldn't be left ignored, and I'm so glad that it hasn't. Lorde is an incredible diamond in the rough in an industry crowded with generic pop stars and redundant club tunes, and I just know that her highly anticipated debut, "Pure Heroine," will easily end up standing out as one of the year's best albums. Just you watch.

Something fresh finally

Nice to finally hear some meaningful lyrics. Can't stand the stuff that's being churned out in the US nowadays. Good work Lorde.

The only problem is that I pre-ordered and never got team:(
