Album Review

Returning to the industrial/goth programming of Chris Brantley and the wraithlike electronic violins of Rachel McDonnell, the Crüxshadows' fifth full-length re-established the North Florida band's admired dark dance-pop intent. Fronted again by a traditional haunted monotone, the music was tenser than on earlier outings — with a fuller approach — and consequently a little more overbearing. Rogue's voice played up the callous seriousness of the band, but in a way that sounded well-rehearsed rather than born from believable personal misfortune. Standouts like the Top 20 European hit "Tears" were still strong — a moody, shimmering thing of electro-house and stadium rock overkill, like an exclusively new wave Wall of Voodoo, and an unlocking of a whole new possible direction for the band.

I LOVE This Album

I am so glad wishfire is finally available on iTunes. I wore out my CD a long time ago. For me, I thought the cruxshadows were great before wishfire, but this album is what hooked me for life. 9 years later, I still have Spiral (Don't Fall), Return (Coming Home), The Seraphs, and The 4th Phase playing on my iPod every day. I'm looking forward to rediscovering the other songs on this album again.

This album is inspirational, very creative, and beautiful to listen to.

This album is an amazing piece of art. The sheer amount of emotion put into each song sends chills down my spine. It's one of those albums you can relax to or you can get up and dance. It blows all the stereotypes of goth out of the water. This album is for anyone who likes music not just a specific genre.

The Cruxshadows are hands down the best band I know of, live or recorded. Buy this album. Once you do you wont have a choice but to buy the rest of their discography.

Goth perfection

A solid album from beginning to end. One of those rare CD's that you play all the way through whenever you listen to it.

Formed: 1992

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Pushing goth-rock further away from its cliched Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson motifs, The Cruxshadows (pronounced Croo-shadows) were formed by Rogue, Sean Flanagan, and Tim Curry while attending Florida State University in 1992. Being fans of Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Peter Murphy, and other synth-powered new wave artists, the band wanted to capture twinging electric guitar and electric violin to compose a shimmering dance-like sound. Their lyrical imagery is passionate and enigmatic, similarly...
