First off, congrats Tim! I've been waiting for this album since I first heard "Technicolor" and thought it'd be coming out on the 14th. But it's here now! I'll be completely honest and say I don't like the song "Black Jesus" but otherwise, this album is well worth your money ($10 for 14 songs...a steal right?). This guy has a sound all his own that will bring something new to your music collection and make you want to listen over and over. With songs like Hello Good Times, Feel Good Sunshine, Yes! - trust me, you'll love it.
There's no shortage of quirk and trend to the music on this album. The same can be said for the collaboration with El May on the single "Me and My Friends". The problem, not for Tim but for listeners, is that these characteristics tend to be best suited for commercial work. The catchiest snippet get's dissected and extracted from what is again, a trend laden quirky composition and from there it's fused nicely into the background of a Chase Bank commercial all for a small fee. Again, great for Tim. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with this album. The artist is not lacking in talent nor is he short on an eye and ear for what's popular. It's just that halfway through each track you'll be wanting to change the channel.
