Album Review

With less instrumentation than his first solo outing, this makes for a tough listen for those not completely appreciative of Kinney's unique Southern rock voice or the solo folk/blues idiom. The title cut is outstanding, as is "Shindig With the Lord"; the song recalls the excitement of a revival tent set up on the outskirts of town as it winds up and down. It's a sight often seen in the rural South, but as in his other songs, the sight seems to be taken from Kinney's fertile imagination, delivered with his usual urbanity.

The Counter Part to Drivin' n' Cryin's Smoke

stripped down basic kevn kinney....recorded just weeks after drivin n cryin's final album with island records 'SMOKE' .....
DOWN OUT LAW was originally titled 'when the smoke clears'.
it was an answer to the primal scream therapy of' SMOKE'.......
Kinney returned to Memphis's Kiva Studio where 'drivin n cryin' recorded it's gold album 'Fly Me Couragous' two years earlier....
a bit demo sounding but a great moment in time for fans
A Haight Street Kerouacian Ripoff is awesome
Bird has just been redone for the Kevn Kinney and the Golden Palominos new album
but this version on Down Out Law is haunting

Though often cited as a working-class lyricist, Kinney cannot easily...
