Temple Beautiful is Chuck Prophet’s rock ‘n’ roll ode to his hometown of San Francisco. It’s a wild and woolly ride that offers up snarling honky-tonk (“Castro Halloween”), bluesy ‘70s punk riots (“Temple Beautiful”), and somber Americana (“Museum of Broken Hearts”). “The Left Hand and the Right Hand” is a stylistic nod to The Replacements, mixing the moody, the romantic, and the visceral. And “White Night, Big City” rails through its old-school retro-rock as Prophet channels Lou Reed over jaunty piano.
