Album Review

Saxophonist Jessy J is bound to get more recognition for her 2008 Peak Records debut, Tequila Moon, than she did for her self-titled album of 2007. She has hooked up with producer Paul Brown, who makes the album a virtual collaboration, also serving as co-writer of five out of the 11 tunes, arranging, engineering, mixing, and playing guitar. Brown is a king of contemporary jazz, of course, but he doesn't so much impose his style here as bring out Jessy J's, which also has strong ties to Latin jazz. She even puts down her axe and pleasantly sings the standards "Mas Que Nada" and "Besame Mucho," and the arrangements tend to have a Spanish tinge. She turns from her usual tenor to soprano sax on her and Brown's "Running Away" and a cover of Phoebe Snow's "Poetry Man" to excellent effect. This is commercial jazz, to be sure, but the saxophonist shows off an individual voice and a gift for melodic improvisation.

SEXY, SULTRY, REFLECTIVE DEBUT!

Jessy J's brand new album effortlessly fuses Latin and Jazz melodies and rhythms. She may be young but, there is a definitive sophistication on this set of classic latin and pop gems. We are going to be hearing a lot from this talented artist who plays Saxophone and flute as well as sings on Mas Que Nada and Besame Mucho. Favorite tracks include title track "Tequila Moon", "Sin Ti", "Mas Que Nada", "Fiesta Velada", PB'n'J and "Running Away".

Thank you Jessy J!

I purchased your album last week and I truly love every track- especially Tequila Moon, Fiesta Velada and Mas Que Nada. I love how you freely express your Latin roots.Your music is passionate and adds sabor to the world of contemporary jazz. I noticed some poor reviews on here but as they say "don't believe everything you read," because this CD is excellent!!! Totally worth it----So listen, buy, and appreciate this musicians talent.

Tequilla Moon

This CD is the best!!! I can't wait to see her in person in May at the Ofstoff Resort in Wi. She is also going to be at the Art Good Jazz Festival in June in Big Bear Lake Ca. where I'm going to see her there as well. I'm a Smooth Jazz Nut. You won't be disapointed. Thank you Jessy J.
