Reseña de álbum

After an extended layoff from studio recording, trumpeter Jon Faddis returns with Teranga. Taking its name from the Senegalese word for "hospitality," the album is an inspired and straightforward post-bop album and features Faddis in top form. Often driven by thick, acoustic basslines via Kiyoshi Kitagawa, Faddis' compositions are lush, visceral, and funky pieces that reveal the often flashy trumpeter's more enigmatic and thoughtful inclinations. Longtime fans shouldn't fear, though, as Faddis' sparkling tone and trademark monumental range remain intact and are showcased throughout. Besides his superb backing ensemble that includes pianist David Hazeltine and drummer Dion Parson, Faddis has also brought along such sympathetic collaborators as Senegalese percussionists Abdou M'Boup and Alioune Faye as well as baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan, trumpeter Clark Terry, and others.

Great Sounds

Jon Faddis is on top of his game with this effort. Great tone. Teranga should become a classic

The Baron

I play trumpet and can really appreciate how well john does, I purchased "The Baron" and it is a great song.

Jon Faddis is great!

I just downloaded this album, and am I impressed! Jon Faddis is one of my favorite players, because unlike many trumpet players today, he plays with fire and passion like the trumpeters of reknown i.e. Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Freddie Hubbard. Jon always plays at the top of his instrument (not just high notes) with taste and reckless abandonment. He makes jazz fun/inspirational and not like a discourse in chordal progressions. Give this extremely hot and diviersified album a listen. You won't regret it!!

When Jon Faddis burst on the jazz scene as a teenager, observers were amazed by his technique and his ability to sound like an identical twin of Dizzy Gillespie (whose complex style had never been successfully duplicated before). After a period, he was typecast as a Dizzy imitator but Faddis' remarkable range (hitting higher notes than Gillespie ever could) and the gradual development of his individual sound have helped him overcome the early fault. In fact, Faddis can now also imitate Roy Eldridge...
